Polymarket adds short-window metals bets with Chainlink settlement data

The new markets let traders take positions on whether gold or silver finishes a rolling 15-minute window above or below its starting level, settling on Chainlink Data Streams prices for XAU/USD and XAG/USD. Chainlink has already supported more than 11 billion dollars in volume across Polymarket's 5 and 15-minute crypto markets.

Polymarket has introduced gold and silver prediction markets built around rolling 15-minute intervals, according to Token10x. The contracts let traders take positions on whether either metal ends an interval above or below its opening level.

How the metals contracts settle

The markets use Chainlink Data Streams prices for XAU/USD and XAG/USD to determine outcomes. That makes the specified Chainlink prices the reference for settlement, rather than an unspecified measure of gold or silver prices.

Each contract focuses on the direction of the price change within its 15-minute window. The relevant comparison is between the starting and finishing levels, not the size of the move.

An extension of existing infrastructure

Chainlink already supports Polymarket’s 5 and 15-minute crypto markets. According to Token10x, those markets have accounted for more than 11 billion dollars in volume supported by Chainlink.

The metals launch extends that pricing relationship to gold and silver, pairing short-duration directional contracts with Chainlink’s XAU/USD and XAG/USD data.

What it means for prediction markets

  • Settlement references matter: Outcomes depend on the designated Chainlink Data Streams prices for XAU/USD and XAG/USD.
  • Timing defines the question: These contracts concern a rolling 15-minute price change, rather than a longer-term view on either metal.
  • Prior volume is not metals demand: The more than 11 billion dollars figure relates to Polymarket’s existing 5 and 15-minute crypto markets, not the new gold and silver contracts.
