Gold's Ceiling Caved In: $4,400 Went From 27% to 16%

Gold was supposed to keep climbing. Prediction markets just cut the ceiling. PAX Gold trades at $3,893, down 2.24% on the day, and traders on Kalshi have slashed the odds of gold closing 2026 above $4,300 from 34% to 22%.

The higher rungs fell harder. The chance of a close above $4,400 was trimmed from 27% to 16%, and the full Kalshi ladder now puts $4,500 or above at just 14% and $5,000 or above at 10%. A market that once priced a runaway year-end is now pricing a ceiling.

The downside trade moved the other way. On Polymarket, the odds of gold falling below $3,500 doubled from 10% to 20%. That is not a crash call — it is a repricing: the tail traders ignored a week ago now carries one chance in five.

The money behind the move is real, if concentrated. The six gold markets tracked across Kalshi and Polymarket, including the flagship What will Gold hit by end of December contract, have traded over $4.56 million to date. In that flagship, hitting $4,500 at any point still sits at 49.5% — far above the 14% for closing there.

That gap is the story. Traders still think gold can spike to $4,500. They no longer think it can stay there.
