Kalshi and Polymarket show distinct trading profiles in Pew data
TechJury says Kalshi recorded 37.17 billion dollars in trading volume in August 2026 while Polymarket and Polymarket US generated 8.16 billion dollars combined. Pew found politics represented about 32 percent of Polymarket volume over the period, against about 4 percent for Kalshi.
Kalshi’s trading activity leaned much more heavily toward sports than Polymarket’s in Pew data covering July 2024 to April 2026, according to TechJury. The comparison points to different market mixes at the two platforms.
Sports and politics divide platform activity
Sports represented about 80 percent of Kalshi’s trading volume over the period, compared with 39 percent for Polymarket, TechJury reported, citing Pew.
Politics showed the opposite pattern. Pew found that political markets accounted for about 32 percent of Polymarket’s volume, versus about 4 percent for Kalshi, according to TechJury.
August volume provides a separate snapshot
TechJury also reported that Kalshi recorded 37.17 billion dollars in trading volume in August 2026. Polymarket and Polymarket US generated 8.16 billion dollars combined that month.
Those August totals cover a later period than Pew’s category breakdown. They therefore provide a separate comparison of platform activity, rather than evidence of how August trading was distributed between sports, politics and other markets.
What it means for prediction markets
- Platform totals reflect different market mixes. Pew’s figures show a substantially greater sports share at Kalshi and a greater politics share at Polymarket.
- The reporting periods matter. The July 2024 to April 2026 category shares should not be treated as an August 2026 breakdown.
- The comparison groups differ. The August volume figure combines Polymarket and Polymarket US, while the supplied Pew breakdown identifies Polymarket.
