Polymarket affiliate clears NFA hurdle with CFTC approval still pending

InforMarket reports the National Futures Association has approved Polymarket affiliate PM Derivatives LLC to operate as a futures commission merchant, though CFTC approval is still needed for it to run as an FCM broker. With QCX LLC already operating as Polymarket US, a CFTC-regulated designated contract market, the approval gives Polymarket the intermediary piece of its regulated United States derivatives infrastructure while it keeps working with existing FCM and brokerage partners.

Polymarket affiliate PM Derivatives LLC has received National Futures Association approval to operate as a futures commission merchant, according to InforMarket. The decision advances the company’s regulated United States derivatives infrastructure, but does not complete the approval process.

PM Derivatives still needs approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to operate as an FCM broker, InforMarket reported. That remaining requirement distinguishes the NFA milestone from full authorization to begin that role.

Exchange and intermediary roles

Polymarket already has an exchange component through QCX LLC, which operates as Polymarket US. QCX is a CFTC-regulated designated contract market, according to InforMarket.

The approval for PM Derivatives adds the intermediary component to that structure. The two entities serve distinct functions: QCX provides the regulated market, while PM Derivatives is pursuing authorization for the FCM brokerage role.

Polymarket continues to work with existing FCM and brokerage partners as it develops this infrastructure, InforMarket reported. The NFA decision therefore sits alongside those relationships rather than marking their replacement.

What it means for prediction markets

  • The regulatory milestone is specific: NFA approval has been obtained, but CFTC approval remains necessary for PM Derivatives to operate as an FCM broker.
  • Entity and role distinctions matter: QCX LLC’s status as a designated contract market is separate from PM Derivatives LLC’s intermediary approval process.
  • Existing partnerships remain relevant: Polymarket is continuing to work with FCM and brokerage partners while building its own regulated infrastructure.
