Millennium looks to prediction markets for trading signals
Millennium Management, which has about $97 billion under management, is developing a tool that would help its portfolio managers incorporate data from Polymarket and Kalshi into traditional-asset trades, according to TokenPost.
The project focuses on using prediction markets as a source of information rather than as a venue for investment. TokenPost reports that Millennium has not begun trading prediction-market contracts directly.
Research interest spans geopolitics and commodities
Some Millennium managers are particularly interested in data linked to geopolitics, the economy and commodities. The planned tool would bring that information into their research on traditional assets.
Prediction-market contracts cover outcomes including elections, economic data and corporate developments. Millennium’s proposed use would treat data from those contracts as trading signals, keeping its activity distinct from buying or selling the contracts themselves.
Other firms have taken different approaches to the sector, according to TokenPost. Susquehanna and Jump Trading previously became market makers, while AQR expanded its quantitative research team focused on prediction markets over the summer.
What it means for prediction markets
- Data use is distinct from trading participation. Millennium’s project does not establish that the fund is adding liquidity or taking positions on Polymarket or Kalshi.
- The tool remains in development. The report describes a planned research capability, not a completed rollout or demonstrated trading results.
- Institutional involvement takes several forms. Millennium’s signal-focused approach sits alongside market-making activity at Susquehanna and Jump Trading and prediction-market research at AQR.
