Kalshi September CPI markets finalized after on-time BLS release
BLS released on schedule, so the delay extension never applied; monthly close at 8:29 AM ET.
Kalshi’s September 2026 inflation markets have finalized following the scheduled Bureau of Labor Statistics release, according to Kalshi View’s October 16, 2026, review of the exchange’s API. With the report arriving on time, the delay extension did not apply.
BLS issued the September Consumer Price Index report, USDL-26-1574, at 08:30 AM ET on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Final exchange records put trading close at 08:29 AM EDT for both the monthly and year-over-year markets—one minute before publication.
Inflation figures determine the outcomes
September’s all-items CPI-U rose 0.6 percent on a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, following August’s 0.4 percent increase. The annual increase, before seasonal adjustment, reached 3.7 percent, compared with 3.4 percent for the 12 months ending August, according to the BLS figures reported by Kalshi View.
All 14 markets in monthly event KXCPI-26SEP finalized: thresholds of 0.5 percent or lower resolved yes, while thresholds of 0.6 percent or higher resolved no. All 21 markets in annual event KXCPIYOY-26SEP also finalized, with thresholds of 3.6 percent or lower resolving yes and those of 3.7 percent or higher resolving no. These outcomes reflect strict greater-than comparisons against the one-decimal headline figures.
Core CPI, which excludes food and energy and was not the measure underlying these contracts, increased 0.3 percent monthly and 2.6 percent annually. Gasoline prices rose 9.1 percent in September, contributing more than half of the monthly headline increase.
Final records clarify the trading cutoff
The final monthly cutoff differed from Kalshi View’s September 23 snapshot, which had displayed 08:25 AM EDT. Every finalized market across both events instead recorded 2026-10-14T12:29:00Z, equivalent to 08:29 AM EDT and consistent with the generic monthly terms PDF. Kalshi View did not conclude that either dated display had been erroneous; trading close, expiration and payout are separate timestamps.
What it means for prediction markets
- Equality did not qualify for yes. The 0.6 percent monthly and 3.7 percent annual readings failed the strict greater-than thresholds at those same values.
- The delay provision remained unused. Publication occurred at the scheduled time, leaving no need for the extension.
- Final records matter for timing. Both events closed at 08:29 AM EDT, despite the earlier monthly snapshot showing 08:25 AM EDT.
- The inflation measure matters. These contracts resolved on headline monthly and annual CPI, not core CPI.
