Sports volume puts data suppliers in focus
Sportradar (NASDAQ: SRAD) is positioning its existing sports-data business to serve prediction markets as sports contracts drive much of their activity. According to reporting originally published on Benzinga and carried by dallasmetrowire.com, an August report from Eilers & Krejcik found that sports represented approximately 82% of Kalshi’s U.S. prediction volume over the last twelve months.
The research firm estimated total monthly U.S. prediction market volume at 49.0bn contracts in July 2026, approximately 49x the 0.9bn recorded in August 2025. Separately, U.S. sports prediction market handle-analog reached 30% of combined prediction market and online sports betting handle in June 2026, compared with 1-2% one year earlier. Those measures describe different aspects of the expansion: contract activity and sports markets’ relative footprint.
An existing toolkit for new customers
According to the Benzinga report, Sportradar sees demand for capabilities it already supplies to sports betting and media customers: sports data, live odds, fan engagement, customer acquisition and integrity tools. Founder and CEO Carsten Koerl described prediction markets as an extension of the company’s core business, with its content, international reach and product range supporting that push.
Official results used to settle sports contracts are central to that proposition. Sportradar says its league partnerships, sports rights, technology and industry relationships give it an established foundation for serving prediction-market customers. Its potential buyers extend beyond exchanges to market makers and brokers seeking timely data for pricing, liquidity and settlement. The company says it works only with authorized, registered, licensed operators and follows applicable regulations wherever it operates.
Expansion beyond the exchanges
The Benzinga report describes Kalshi and Polymarket as regulated by the CFTC rather than state gaming regulators, allowing access to states without regulated sports betting. It also identifies FanDuel and DraftKings as developing prediction-market products, framing the category as an avenue for expansion as well as competition.
Eilers & Krejcik recorded a peak of more than 6 million U.S. prediction market app downloads in June 2026, led by Kalshi and Polymarket. The firm also cited exchange fundraising targets implying valuations of up to $40 billion. For Sportradar, the reported opportunity is to supply infrastructure across that growing customer base rather than depend on a single exchange becoming dominant.
What it means for prediction markets
- Sports data is a core dependency. Sports’ approximately 82% share of Kalshi’s U.S. prediction volume makes result verification and settlement infrastructure particularly relevant.
- Growth measures need careful reading. The 49.0bn figure measures contracts, while the 30% figure concerns sports handle-analog relative to a combined market; they are not interchangeable.
- Infrastructure demand extends beyond platforms. Market makers and brokers add potential customers for data used in pricing, trading and settlement.
- Positioning is not a confirmed commercial outcome. The supplied report outlines Sportradar’s capabilities and opportunity but identifies no new prediction-market customer agreement or associated revenue figure.
