Machado's Venezuela return is Polymarket's biggest political mover: Dec. 31 odds slide 10 points to 36%
RG.org's movers board, comparing Oct. 10 at 12:24 AM ET with Oct. 11 at 1:02 AM ET, puts the contract on Maria Corina Machado entering Venezuela by Dec. 31 down from 46%…
Polymarket’s contract on María Corina Machado entering Venezuela by Dec. 31 fell from 46% to 36%, making it the biggest political mover on RG.org’s board. The comparison covers Oct. 10 at 12:24 AM ET through Oct. 11 at 1:02 AM ET—not trading on Oct. 13, when this article was published.
Return probabilities fall across deadlines
According to RG.org, the market has recorded $6.6 million in trading across three active deadlines. The Oct. 15 contract dropped from 7% to 6% (+1567), while Oct. 31 declined from 19% to 13% (+669). The Dec. 31 contract’s 10-percentage-point fall left its quoted odds at +178. RG.org said it had no confirmed reporting that explained the decline.
Machado, the Nobel Peace Prize winner and opposition leader, left Venezuela in December 2025 and is based in Panama. In May, she said she intended to return before 2026 ended and seek the presidency. Her team says she has made at least seven attempts to return, using both air and sea routes, and was prevented from entering each time.
Conflicting signals, no return date
The public messaging has offered little certainty about timing. On Oct. 6, a coordinator from Machado’s party, Vente Venezuela, suggested her arrival could be hours away. That same day, her closest aides told El Debate that a return was not imminent, according to RG.org.
RG.org also cited The Maltese Herald, which attributed to The Wall Street Journal a report that the Trump administration had not supported an attempted return through Curaçao. Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied that Washington had blocked Machado.
Speaking in Panama City on Saturday, Machado said she was working to return as quickly as possible and argued that acting president Delcy Rodríguez’s government feared her arrival. She did not provide a date. Her party has called for protests in cities abroad on Oct. 17 to demand an election date.
What it means for prediction markets
- The repricing is clear; its cause is not. All three deadlines moved lower, but RG.org identified no confirmed report explaining the shift.
- Intent and entry are different outcomes. The contract concerns Machado physically entering Venezuela, rather than announcing plans or seeking the presidency.
- The snapshot matters. The 36% year-end probability reflects prices as of Oct. 11 at 1:02 AM ET, 2026, and should not be read as a live Oct. 13 quote.
- Political arrangements remain a potential catalyst. RG.org identified a possible agreement over an election calendar as a risk to expectations that she would remain outside Venezuela through Dec. 31.
