Kalshi Mentions jumps 31.34% to $9.80M
DeFi Rate flags Mentions as a fast-growing Kalshi category in the Sept. 28-Oct. 4 report.
Kalshi’s identified Mentions category recorded $9.80 million in volume during Sept. 28-Oct. 4, 2026, a 31.34% weekly increase, according to DeFi Rate. The category grew faster than the platform overall, although it remained small compared with the Exotics, Sports and Crypto categories.
Mentions grows alongside other smaller categories
The rise in Mentions accompanied gains in several smaller segments. DeFi Rate reported that Science and Technology volume climbed 51.30% to $6.93 million, while Economics increased 47.16% to $19.34 million. Those figures put Mentions between the two in volume, but behind both in percentage growth.
The comparisons apply the same Kalshi series mapping to both weeks. They describe identified series under current category labels, rather than a complete historical classification. DeFi Rate treats Exotics separately from sport-specific tags, which can overlap.
Exotics accounts for most of Kalshi’s increase
Kalshi’s total weekly volume reached $18.37 billion, rising 17.28% from $15.66 billion in the previous UTC week, according to DeFi Rate. That was the largest weekly figure among the seven observations reviewed in the report.
Exotics contributed most of the expansion. Its volume increased 24.87% to $11.82 billion, representing 64.34% of Kalshi’s total and 86.95% of the platform’s $2.71 billion weekly gain. Several leading individual markets were multi-leg sports combinations; the largest, a 10-leg NFL combo involving player statistics and team winners, recorded $117.16 million.
Other large categories grew more slowly than Mentions: identified Sports volume increased 1.31% to $3.64 billion, and Crypto rose 7.37% to $2.42 billion. Financials, however, registered a 646.26% jump to $83.25 million from $11.16 million, illustrating how a smaller starting base can produce a substantial percentage increase.
What it means for prediction markets
- Growth and scale tell different stories. Mentions outpaced Kalshi’s overall weekly growth, but Exotics remained the principal contributor to the platform’s volume increase.
- Classification matters. Mentions is a distinct identified category in this comparison. Its gain should not be conflated with activity in Exotics or the leading multi-leg sports markets.
- Volume is not cash spent. DeFi Rate measures Kalshi activity using a $1 face-value convention. The reported $9.80 million therefore should not be read as the amount traders paid.
- Persistence remains unproven. The report establishes a weekly increase in Mentions, not a sustained growth trend or a shift by individual traders from other categories.
