Bitcoin's chance of $200k in 2026: just 2%

Both price it at ~2%, a record low; $100k at 28%, $74M+ volume

Bitcoin prediction contracts are assigning a historically low probability to a move to $200,000 in 2026. According to Crypto Briefing reporting carried by TradingView, Kalshi priced that outcome at 2% as of October 2026, while comparable Polymarket odds ranged from less than 1% to 2%.

A steep climb, a small probability

The Kalshi contract asks whether Bitcoin will trade above $200,000 by January 1, 2027. The reported 2% probability marks a record low for these contracts. On Polymarket, the current range represents a decline from around 4%.

Bitcoin traded near $82,000 to $84,000 in early October 2026. Reaching $200,000 would therefore require its price to more than double before the end of the year. The contracts use the CF Bitcoin Real-Time Index as their settlement benchmark.

Lower targets draw stronger odds

The probability ladder is considerably more favorable at lower thresholds: contracts for Bitcoin reaching $90,000 imply a 63% chance, compared with 28% for $100,000. Contracts spanning $150,000 to $190,000 carry single-digit probabilities, according to the report.

Total volume across the related Polymarket contracts exceeds $74 million. September data had already put the $200,000 contract at 2%, indicating that the low probability was established before October rather than emerging only this month.

What it means for prediction markets

  • The upper tail is priced narrowly: $200,000 contracts imply a 2% probability on Kalshi and less than 1% to 2% on Polymarket—not an impossible outcome, but a low-probability one.
  • Threshold selection matters: The gap between 63% at $90,000 and 28% at $100,000 shows substantially different expectations even for nearer price targets.
  • Settlement terms matter: The CF Bitcoin Real-Time Index is the relevant benchmark for these contracts; Kalshi’s stated deadline is January 1, 2027.
  • The cooling predates October: September’s 2% reading and Polymarket’s decline from around 4% provide context for the latest pricing.
