Verifact Markets has launched a platform where eligible users outside the United States can trade on contested claims about events that have already occurred, according to TokenPost. The Chicago-based company announced the launch on Oct. 6, 2026, at 4 p.m. ET (20:00 UTC), offering contracts on political, business and cultural questions rather than forecasts of future events.
Evidence and settlement
Users buy True or False contracts, with correct positions paying $1 at settlement and incorrect positions losing their value. They can also examine arguments and submit supporting material. Verifact says its patent-pending resolution framework considers evidence collected by its own systems, user submissions and market structure; trader consensus is not sufficient on its own, and resolution requires high confidence.
An alternative settlement process applies when a claim remains unresolved, trading subsides and fresh evidence stops arriving. Verifact may then expire the market and settle positions at a price derived from recent qualifying trades. According to TokenPost, the company has not explained which trades qualify or how much inactivity would trigger expiration.
The platform links evidence gathering to financial participation: users may hold contracts while supplying documentation that could influence settlement. Verifact says credible submissions may receive rewards. CEO Rodrigo Aquino described the company’s purpose as addressing the difficulty of resolving disputed claims.
Topics and disclosure gaps
Listed subjects include COVID-19’s origins, Meta’s “Not Even WhatsApp” privacy campaign and the Pentagon’s dismissal of Stars and Stripes journalists. Verifact also said a private-beta contract concerning whether the LA Clippers used Kawhi Leonard’s endorsement deals to get around the NBA salary cap settled as True. That is a reported platform outcome, not independent confirmation of the underlying claim.
Access is offered in several jurisdictions outside the United States, but Verifact has not identified the eligible jurisdictions. TokenPost also reported that the company has not released user counts, trading volume, liquidity data, an accuracy record or a history of completed-market performance.
What it means for prediction markets
- The uncertainty concerns evidence, not future events. These contracts ask traders to assess disputed accounts of the past, making the resolution framework central to how markets function.
- Expiration creates a separate settlement path. An inconclusive market may settle using recent trades rather than a definitive True or False finding. Undisclosed qualification and inactivity rules leave that process difficult to assess.
- Evidence contributors can also have financial exposure. Participants may submit material while holding positions, making the evaluation of that evidence an important part of settlement.
- Performance remains unmeasurable from the disclosed data. Without liquidity figures, an accuracy record or completed-market history, readers cannot yet assess the platform’s trading depth or resolution track record.
