Bitcoin holds above $83K as spot ETF flows flip to a deficit, with Polymarket pricing a 68% chance it dips below $80,000 in October
Quiet quarter-hour — no major new headline in the last 15 minutes, so this fresh crypto/commodities lead takes the top spot, in a different category from the last three…
Bitcoin’s recovery above $83,000 has not displaced expectations of another October decline. Polymarket pricing puts the probability of a move below $80,000 during the month at 68%, even as the cryptocurrency rebounds from an overnight selloff and U.S. spot bitcoin ETF flows turn negative for October.
According to TradingNEWS, bitcoin traded at $83,606.53 at 10:24 a.m. ET on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, gaining $1,115.35, or 1.35%, on the session. That followed a brief move below $81,000 eighteen hours earlier, leaving the recovery at roughly $2,600.
Recovery contrasts with ETF withdrawals
The rebound came against weaker equity markets. South Korea’s KOSPI finished down 5.46% at 6,035.35, while the Nasdaq Composite slipped 0.17% to 27,200.61 in early trading, according to TradingNEWS. Bitcoin initially fell alongside Korean stocks before recovering—a divergence that demonstrates resilience in this session, rather than establishing a lasting change in its relationship with equities.
Fund flows presented a less supportive picture. U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs registered $65.4 million in net withdrawals on Monday, October 12, entirely from BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, IBIT; every other fund was unchanged, TradingNEWS reported. October’s cumulative balance moved from $321.4 million in inflows by October 6 to $454 million in net outflows after four additional trading sessions. The week ending October 9 recorded $681.1 million in net withdrawals.
Inflation report is the next test
September’s Consumer Price Index report is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, at 8:30 a.m. ET, ahead of the October 27-28 FOMC meeting. According to TradingNEWS, Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack said on October 12 that restrictive policy was necessary to bring inflation back to 2% in a timely manner. Her comments followed the Fed’s September rate hike, while the 10-year Treasury yield stood at 5.22% on Tuesday morning.
TradingNEWS identifies $81,000 to $86,500 as bitcoin’s current trading range. Its scenario analysis links softer inflation to a potential challenge of the $85,000 to $86,500 resistance area and the $87,722 yearly opening level. A hotter reading could renew pressure on $81,000, with $77,261 below it. Those are conditional scenarios, not established outcomes, but they frame the tension between Tuesday’s recovery and the downside probability on Polymarket.
What it means for prediction markets
- The contract concerns a threshold, not a closing price. A probability of 68% for bitcoin dipping below $80,000 in October should not be read as a forecast that it will finish the month below that level.
- The latest overnight low did not cross $80,000. TradingNEWS reported a brief move below $81,000; that alone does not establish that the prediction-market threshold was reached.
- CPI provides a near-term repricing event. Wednesday’s 8:30 a.m. ET release could change rate expectations while bitcoin is trading, before U.S. equities open.
- Price and flows offer conflicting signals. Tuesday’s rebound contrasts with October’s $454 million ETF deficit. The next flow report may help indicate whether the recovery coincides with renewed fund demand.
