The Stanley Cup Market Cannot Pick a Favorite
Some futures markets have a favorite. The Stanley Cup market has a tie. The Carolina Hurricanes and the Colorado Avalanche both sit at 11% on Kalshi, the lowest leading price of any major title market on the board.
Context makes the tie louder. The basketball favorite is San Antonio at 22%, the football favorite San Francisco at 16%, and even the wide-open college football race has Georgia at 24%. Hockey's co-leaders would be third choice in most other sports.
An 11% leader means the market sees roughly nine live contenders and no separation among them. For traders, that shape is an invitation: longshot prices stay honest deep into the season because no favorite is absorbing the board.
The Cup market will not stay tied forever. Injuries, streaks and the trade deadline will pick a favorite eventually. Until they do, this is the most democratic futures board in sports, and every contender's price is worth watching.
