Inside Polymarket's paid esports quote-retweet program: 800+ participants paid $10 to several hundred per post in crypto

Quiet quarter-hour for platform headlines, so this fresh investigation leads, in a fundraising/business category different from the previous three leads…

Polymarket is paying more than 800 participants to amplify its esports accounts on X, with compensation ranging from $10 to several hundred dollars per post in crypto, according to an investigation by ReaderGrev. Internal Discord messages reviewed by the outlet show a coordinated promotional operation that has more than doubled in size since August.

The program combines formal disclosure requirements with instructions to make participants’ posts appear natural within their usual output. ReaderGrev reported that Polymarket did not respond to emails to its press address or interview requests sent directly to representatives involved in the Discord.

How the promotion network works

Participants are typically recruited through social media or email, then directed to Discord channels that identify posts eligible for paid quote-retweets. A proprietary dashboard, PolyTrack, collects tax details, crypto wallet addresses and submissions, while tracking earnings. The roster includes esports commentators, current and former professional players, coaches, managers and creators, alongside accounts with low four-figure follower counts, according to ReaderGrev.

Rates are negotiated using participants’ typical views before joining, rather than engagement on the sponsored posts; prominent esports personalities can receive higher fees. Two participants showed ReaderGrev rates of $45 and $75 per post, while another described negotiating $200-300. Recruitment carries an additional incentive: participants can receive 3% of a referral’s earnings each month for as long as that person remains in the program. Discord figures rose from 300+ creators at the start of August to 800+ two months later.

Disclosure and the cost of visibility

Polymarket’s onboarding rules require clear disclosure and prohibit recommendations of specific trades or strategies. Many posts carry X’s “Paid partnership” label, ReaderGrev found. However, Discord prompts stopped explicitly reminding participants to add that label after late August, for reasons the outlet could not establish. Representatives also repeatedly encouraged creators to avoid making their profiles look dominated by Polymarket promotions.

ReaderGrev estimated that aggregate creator payments for each promoted post in the more popular programs could conservatively total $2,000 to $4,000, while warning that higher-paid participants could push costs substantially above that range. Total spending remains uncertain. League of Legends, Valorant and Counter-Strike channels have offered nearly daily promotional posts in recent weeks, whereas DotA 2 offered one in October, one in September and two in August. The outlet found that posts selected for paid promotion attracted substantially more engagement, particularly quote-retweets, than other posts from the branded accounts.

What it means for prediction markets

  • Social visibility is not necessarily organic demand. Paid amplification complicates using esports engagement on X as a proxy for independent interest in Polymarket or its contracts.
  • The figures describe marketing reach, not trading growth. The investigation documents participant counts and compensation, but does not establish how much additional trading the program generates.
  • Disclosure and presentation deserve separate scrutiny. The reported rules require sponsorship labels, while internal instructions encourage posts that blend into creators’ normal output. Neither element alone establishes a violation.
  • Product access remains distinct. According to ReaderGrev, Polymarket Global is unavailable to bettors in the United States, while Polymarket US operates under U.S. regulations. Promotional reach should not be confused with eligibility to trade.
