Bitcoin recovers as technology shares retreat

Bitcoin traded at about $83,697 on Oct 13, 2026, recovering above $83,000 after an overnight move below $81,000. According to CoinDesk, the dip occurred at 00:50 UTC; the supplied market snapshot put the 24-hour low near $80,943.

Other major cryptocurrencies also recovered. CoinDesk reported that ether rebounded from five-day lows and XRP reversed higher after reaching three-week lows, with Zcash and solana following a similar course. The supplied snapshot listed ETH at about $2,532 and SOL near $104 in earlier platform readings, while CoinDesk’s displayed ether price was $2,510.56.

The rebound contrasted with losses in equities. According to CoinDesk, South Korea’s KOSPI dropped more than 6% intraday, breached 6,000 and reached its lowest level since late July, remaining roughly 6% lower in morning trading. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix each lost roughly 8%, extending declines to five sessions amid concerns about AI-related valuations and competition from Chinese memory-chip producers. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.4%, while Nasdaq futures slipped 0.6% after the index’s 0.78% decline on Monday.

Oil and inflation remain in focus

WTI crude traded near $92.67, retaining most of Monday’s rebound from below $90, according to CoinDesk. Fresh attacks in Saudi Arabia and continuing threats to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz sustained supply concerns. Brent stood around $106 a barrel following a three-day advance, with potential disruptions weighed against expectations for additional Russian diesel exports.

Elevated oil prices added to inflation concerns and the possibility of Federal Reserve rate increases, a potential drag on cryptocurrencies. The Dollar Index was near 102.50, its highest level since April last year, CoinDesk reported.

Thursday’s U.S. consumer price index report is the next major event for crypto traders. Paul Howard, senior director at market-making firm Wincent, told CoinDesk he expected institutional investors to add derivatives-based protection while largely retaining their underlying crypto exposure, rather than substantially cutting holdings.

What it means for prediction markets

  • Bitcoin price thresholds: The move from below $81,000 to above $83,000 makes observation times important when interpreting contracts tied to price levels.
  • Inflation and Fed outcomes: Thursday’s CPI release and elevated oil prices are relevant to markets tracking inflation and monetary policy. The report provides no prediction-market probabilities.
  • Cross-asset signals: Bitcoin’s recovery diverged from weakness in Korean equities and Nasdaq futures during this session; that alone does not establish a lasting separation.
  • Snapshot differences: The ETH readings refer to different supplied observations and should not be treated as a single simultaneous price. The material provides no gold price.
