Bitcoin whipsaws back above $83.6K as Polymarket binaries reprice sharply
After dipping below $81K overnight (24h low $80,943), BTC recovered to above $83,600 in a roughly 2.75% six-hour swing, reversing the slide that led the 12:09 AM…
Bitcoin’s rebound above $83,600 triggered a substantial repricing of Polymarket contracts tied to its October 13 midday price. According to The Agent Times, citing Alpaca data, BTC/USD finished the five-minute bar ending October 13, 2026, at 05:30:00 UTC at $83,640.4235, following a low of $80,942.813.
Recovery leaves the daily move negative
The six-hour return was +2.058839%, measured from $81,953.14 at October 12, 2026, 23:30:00 UTC. That start-to-finish measure is distinct from the rebound off the low. Over 24 hours, Bitcoin remained down −0.332151% from $83,919.1615, despite having reached a high of $84,265.365.
Alpaca’s reported BTC-denominated volume totaled 0.069139893 BTC over 30 minutes, 0.193494949 BTC over one hour and 7.846276258 BTC over 24 hours. Those readings describe activity on the cited data feed, rather than a consolidated measure of Bitcoin trading.
Midday contracts move higher
At 05:30:00 UTC on October 13, Polymarket’s contract for Bitcoin to finish above $82,000 at 12:00 ET (16:00 UTC) carried a venue-reported “Yes” probability of 0.925, versus 0.58 six hours earlier, according to The Agent Times. Its increase of 0.345 was the largest absolute probability change among the three reported contracts. Liquidity stood at $43,031.57, with 24-hour trading volume of $132,808.37—the highest of the group.
The above-$84,000 contract rose from 0.055 to 0.38, an increase of 0.325, with liquidity of $42,242.31 and 24-hour volume of $61,200.45. The above-$80,000 contract moved from 0.9615 to 0.9905, a gain of 0.029; its liquidity was $50,167.18 and its 24-hour volume was $93,717.53.
The settlement benchmark differs from the spot feed used to describe the recovery. Under the venue rules reported by The Agent Times, each contract resolves using the Binance BTC/USDT one-minute candle closing at 12:00 ET on October 13, not the Alpaca BTC/USD observation.
What it means for prediction markets
- The repricing was concentrated near spot. The $82,000 and $84,000 thresholds registered much larger absolute probability increases than the $80,000 threshold.
- A rebound is not a settlement result. The observed recovery preceded the specified midday Binance candle; the earlier Alpaca price does not determine the outcome.
- Market probabilities reflect positioning, not certainty. The venue-reported readings are secondary market observations, not guarantees of Bitcoin’s eventual price or evidence that contract trading caused the spot move.
