College Basketball Is Back, and the Exchanges Cannot Agree

College basketball's 2026-27 season opens today, November 2, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and the prediction markets are already arguing with each other. At the Field of 68 Showcase, High Point is a clear favorite over Liberty on both exchanges, at 78 percent on Polymarket and 77 cents on Kalshi, but almost every other line on the board splits the two venues.
The widest split is the spread. High Point minus 7.5 trades at 54 percent on Polymarket, right in line with the sportsbook consensus, but at 69 cents on Kalshi, where the Yes and No prices add up to 122 cents, the tell of a thin opening-day book that has not yet been arbitraged tight. The total agrees better: over 154.5 sits at 55 percent on Polymarket and 54 cents on Kalshi.
In the morning game at the same arena, the exchanges cannot even pick the same favorite. Winthrop against Queens is a coin flip with a twist: Polymarket leans Winthrop, 60 percent to 59, while Kalshi leans Queens, 59 cents to 58. Sportsbooks make Queens a 2-point favorite with a total of 165.5, a third opinion that neither board fully matches.
The caution is understandable. High Point returns from a 31-5 season that included an NCAA Tournament upset of Wisconsin, while Liberty, the defending Conference USA regular-season champion, leads the all-time series 24-17. With every team at 0-0 and no current-season data, opening-day prices are built on last year's tape, and the gaps between venues are where that uncertainty shows.
Those gaps will not survive tip-off for long. Season openers are the thinnest books of the year, and the first live trading usually pulls the exchanges into line within minutes. For one morning, college basketball has two prices for the same game, and both are trading.
