The Weekend Clock: What to Watch After the Binance Hack

The Weekend Clock: What to Watch After the Binance Hack

The Binance story now runs on three clocks, and all of them strike within days. First: withdrawals. In their October 30 letter, co-CEOs Yi He and Richard Teng targeted a phased resumption of withdrawals within about 34 hours, once security checks are complete — a window that points at Sunday, November 1. Binance stresses the restart will be phased, not simultaneous for every asset or account, and the exchange has not yet confirmed that withdrawals have resumed.

Second: proof of reserves. Binance planned an initial reserves snapshot within 12 hours of its update, with results due Monday, November 2. Those results have not been published yet. When they land, they are the first hard check on Binance's pledge that its $6.34 billion set-aside fully covers the theft.

Third: the coins that cannot be frozen. About $3.3 billion of the stolen assets sit outside issuer control, including 18,270 BTC split across 19 wallets, per Elliptic figures reported by Cointribune. Any move from those wallets toward an exchange is the market's clearest sell-pressure signal; Compass Point analysts are watching bitcoin's $75,000 to $77,000 range in the meantime.

Also due: Binance's fuller technical findings, expected within about 48 hours of its update, and a promised post-mortem. Until those land, the hack's final shape — how the attackers got in, and what changes because of it — is still being written.
