The Odds Board Priced the Hack in Hours

Prediction markets did not wait for the post-mortem. Within hours of the Binance breach becoming public, Polymarket's weekly bitcoin line (October 26 to November 1) put a 46% chance on bitcoin trading at or below $76,000 before the week closes on Sunday, according to RG.org's market wrap. Bitcoin's overnight low near $76,400 came within about half a percent of that line without touching it.

The repricing was sharpest in the October contracts. Polymarket's "Bitcoin dips to $75,000 in October" market jumped from 5% to 20% as the hack landed, one of the biggest 24-hour movers on the board. Traders were pricing a second leg down, not a collapse: the recovery strikes stayed alive on the same board, and bitcoin steadied near $77,300 by Friday morning.

Kalshi's daily ladder told the same story in smaller increments. Its "What price will Bitcoin hit on October 31?" market, with $173K traded in 24 hours as observed on the morning of October 31, priced the $78,000 strike at 56%, per DeFi Rate's market data. The 15-minute up-or-down markets on both venues kept cycling through the volatility — 96 settlements a day — with Down favored in the early Saturday windows.

The board's verdict, for now: a real shock, a priced-in tail risk, and no panic premium for disaster. That changes only if the stolen coins start moving — or if withdrawals stay closed longer than promised.
