The Model and the Market Agree to the Point

The Model and the Market Agree to the Point

Saturday's two biggest college football games come with a rare sight: the trading market and the simulation model are pricing them almost identically. On Kalshi, Georgia is an 80-cent favorite over Florida, with Florida at 21 cents, ahead of their 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff. SportsLine's projection model, which simulates the game 10,000 times, has Georgia winning 81% of the time — one point from the market.

The primetime game is the same story. Ohio State is priced at 69 cents on Kalshi for its trip to USC, with USC at 32 cents. The same simulation model puts Ohio State's win rate at 70%. Two venues of judgment — thousands of traders putting money down, and a model running ten thousand simulated Saturdays — landed within a single point of each other, twice in one day.

Where the certainty ends is the margin. Earlier on the slate, Notre Dame was priced near 97% to beat Navy on roughly $2.9 million of volume, yet the market gave Notre Dame only a 51% chance of winning by more than 30.5 points, and just 47% for the game to clear 55.5 total points. Miami's spread against North Carolina tells the same story, with Miami to cover 14.5 priced at 49 cents — a genuine coin flip.

That split is what makes a Saturday board worth reading. The moneyline answers who wins, and on the biggest games it now matches the computers almost exactly. The spread and total markets answer how it happens, and there the market is honestly undecided — priced at 49, 51 and 47 cents, where a single drive moves the number.
