Sports Ate the Prediction Markets

The World Series is not just being played on the field. Kalshi's World Series markets have traded more than $180 million — on a single championship series.
Sports is now the engine of the entire industry. Sports contracts account for the overwhelming majority of exchange volume — close to 90% of Kalshi's trailing-year flow — and the NFL weekend of October 24–25 produced the largest two-day total in prediction market history: more than $14 billion, including $442 million on one Sunday of NFL games alone.
The FIFA World Cup drove $31 billion in a single month earlier this year. On Kalshi's sports board right now, 533 markets have traded $748.8 million.
The Super Bowl, the World Series, March Madness — the American sports calendar has become the prediction market calendar.
The scoreboard and the order book have merged.
