Google Now Answers Election Questions With a Market

Ask Google for an election forecast this fall, and there is a coin flip's chance the answer comes from a betting market.

A CasinoReviews.net study of 140 Google results pages across 14 U.S. cities found Polymarket or Kalshi on page one for half of everyday forecast searches like 'election forecast' and 'midterm polls.' Kalshi appeared on all 28 pages sampled for 'senate odds' and 'midterm odds.' Almost nobody is searching for odds — about 1 in 120 midterm searches uses betting language — yet for half of the rest, Google surfaces a market anyway.

The sharpest finding: the platforms appeared in all eight cities tested in states where election betting is banned. Twenty-four states prohibit it outright, while federally regulated exchanges offer election contracts nationwide — a conflict now being argued in court.

The polls are no longer the forecast of record. The market is — whether the searcher asked for it or not.
