First Team In: Kalshi Signs the 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers became the first NBA team to name an official prediction market partner on Friday, signing a multiyear agreement with Kalshi. The deal puts Kalshi in the arena, in the 76ers mobile app and on the team's ticketing platform — the first time an NBA franchise has sold that space to an exchange.

The timing is the story. The team deal lands just four days after the NBA itself named Kalshi and Polymarket its Preferred Prediction Market Exchanges on October 26, with DraftKings expanded as an authorized operator. The league framework gives both exchanges official NBA data via Sportradar, NBA intellectual property and marketing rights, in exchange for integrity rules that prohibit league and team personnel from trading NBA contracts.

The money around the players is moving just as fast. LeBron James signed a reported $15 million annual endorsement agreement with Polymarket in September, Giannis Antetokounmpo became a Kalshi shareholder earlier this year, and Kevin Durant and Devin Booker have established their own ties to operators.

The trading underneath it all is enormous: prediction markets generated more than $14 billion in notional volume over the October 24-25 weekend alone, including more than $10 billion on Kalshi, according to Aldrin Research, and sports account for roughly 80 percent of all prediction market volume. The NFL remains the last major league holding out — and has backed state regulators at the Supreme Court, where a ruling could come as early as 2027.
