250 Million Contracts: Three Days Out, the Election Is a Market

Three days before the Nov. 3 midterms, Kalshi's election markets have traded 250,174,205 contracts across the Senate, House and chamber-control questions, with 170,454,349 contracts still open. In the last 24 hours alone, 17,483,253 contracts changed hands across 100 live races and 310 tradeable contracts.
The balance-of-power market is the biggest single bet: 54.3 million contracts traded and 42.8 million open on the four ways Congress can split. Traders price a Democratic sweep of both chambers at 71 percent on Kalshi, and a 10,000-run simulation of today's race prices gives Democrats and independents Senate control in 71.4 percent of outcomes, with a median result of 52 to 48.
The tightest race tells the real story. In Iowa, Ashley Hinson leads at 56 cents in a market that has traded 8.0 million contracts with 4.8 million open — the highest-volume Senate race the market still cannot call. Michigan is the tipping point: call it for the Democrat and Senate control rises to 75.0 percent in the simulation; call it for the Republican and it falls to 63.4 percent.
That is what a market adds to a poll. Not a single number for Tuesday, but a live map of where control actually turns — priced, open, and still moving with three days to go.
